Goodwin Promotions Portraits

I recently got asked to do some portraits by a boxing promoter. He wanted his website updated with some better pictures of his boxers so I happily accepted the offer. I decided to try something different with the editing and lighting process with these images and I am happy with the outcome. 

All the pictures were taken in a single day and it was a lot of fun. All the boxers got involved in the shoot and were very patient with me especially when I was trying new lighting techniques. I learnt a lot from this experience and I hope you all enjoy the images. 

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 

I really enjoyed this shoot. Both the girls were fantastic to work with and ended up producing shots I didn’t even plan on taking. Was a great day and shot on a stage of the local youth club. 

The more I work with cosplayers and costumers the more I enjoy it. They are just a great bunch of people and I learn more about the characters and the person through their portrayal. I love to see the costumes and it’s even better when I find out that the people make them. Truely brilliant work. 

I hope to continue doing more of this work in the future

Gargoyle


Another set with a fursuit costumer. This time it is a Gargoyle and the person inside is named Robin Poole. Had a great time during this shoot and the bad weather held off long enough for us to get these shots. 

Shots were taken at Coventry Cathedral. The use of lights around that area are fantastic and I made sure I used them as much as I can. Hopefully I can get back there on a winters evening so that I can fully appreciate the lights at an earlier time. 

Another Cosplay shoot with a group of DC and Supernatural cosplayers. These guys were awesome and I really enjoyed the shoot. It was done in a local car park in Birmingham and was a great night for all of us. I tried to make the pictures look gritty and more of the comic book roots that the characters came from. I am very happy with the resulting images and I look forward to doing more of this photography. The characters they were cosplaying as were Black Canary, Castiel and an Alternate costume for Robin.

Had a recent photoshoot with an amazing Fursuit costumer called Laura Croft. She has made this complete fursuit from scratch and on her own. She also runs a neat little business making these suits so you should check her out. The pictures were taken at Canon Hill park and it was an amazing day! Looking forward to working with her again as she was an amazing model!

Makavalien- Band Promotion

This is another set from my recent uni work where I got the chance to photograph promotional shots for Makavalien, an up and coming metal band from London. I used a painting with light technique that required long exposures and I cannot thank the band enough for their patients. The overall shoot took about 6 hours spread over 2 days. It was a great experience and I want to try and perfect this technique in future experiments.The band were happy with the photographs and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

Makavalien- Camden Rock

I was asked to take some photographs for my friends’ band at the Camden Rock in mid September. The venue is a small, intimate venue and is a good night out for music lovers. I wanted to improve on the photographs that I had taken for them last year and see how much I had improved with the new techniques I have learned. I felt that the gig was a success and I was happy with the photographs I produced. I owe most of these photographs to my newly purchased f/2.8 lens. 

Woolwich Skatepark

I took these photographs as part of another university assignment. I borrowed a fish eye converter for my kit lens to get most of these shots. I enjoyed using the ultra wide angle and risking my camera getting close to these bikes as they did the stunts. Overall, it was an enjoyable couple of days and the guys involved were pleased with the images. 

HDR experiments


I have finally had time to play around with HDR and to see how effective it is. I took these shots around Birmingham town centre on a sunny but cloudy day and the use of HDR has really brought the detail out in the sky. I used Photomatix to edited the HDR’s and added some finishing touches to them in photoshop. I have enjoyed these experiments and I look forward to using HDR again in the future. 

These are some of the photographs that I took for a recent university assignment. I used a torch and long shutter speeds to paint the light onto the image and create these cool effects. I really enjoyed this technique and I want to use it in the future but with human models and explore what I can do with it. The downside to this effect is that it takes a while to get the desired image and I need a lot more practice before I can say I have mastered it.
